There are two different tales to the King Valley region, one being the old world wine styles, made from Italian grape varieties that have put this region at the forefront of producing excellent wines such as Prosecco, Barberra Nebbiolo and Sangiovese.
These wines have gained momentum with the Australian wine drinking public. There are, of course, the more common garden varieties like Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc and Shiraz, so it’s a destination that will appeal to all palates.
The King Valley is a great region to learn, taste and buy some of the country’s best Italian wine styles, but do not forget about the wines we drink on a more regular basis, which are just as classy.
If I had to put money on a wine region for the wine traveller that is going to boom and be the next big thing, then King Valley would be it.
